Driving Early Years Inclusion

This handbook, created by Childcare Works in collaboration with Dingley's Promise, details actions for local authorities and is designed to support local authorities' work to ensure:

  • Better sufficiency of places for children with SEND
  • More successful transitions to school
  • More confidence among families who experience effective early identification and support
  • Improved experiences for children.

 

Dingley’s Promise is the largest specialist provider of nursery education to children under 5 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in England.

Childcare Works has also published a collection of resources and four videos, created by Childcare Works in collaboration with Dingley's Promise, to support inclusive practice in early years settings.  These are available to view and share with providers via the HUB: Inclusive Practice in the Early Years

 

This collection includes:

  1. SEND Assessment Guidance Handbook and Video
    Information to support the practical use of the Department for Education SEND Assessment Guidance and accompanying tools in your setting.
  2. A Reflective Approach to Identifying SEND and Inclusion Handbook and Video
    A framework through which to regularly review and adapt to ensure you are inclusive in all that you do in your setting.
  3. The Use of Graduated Approach and Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP) in Inclusive Practice Handbook and Video
    Explore the ‘Assess, Plan, Do, Review’ cycle in detail.
  4. Developing an Inclusive Curriculum Handbook and Video
    Practical ways to approach the development of a curriculum that is inclusive and accessible to all children.
